Flat Rate Movers, Atlanta, GA

When we hired this moving company, I talked to Paul and nothing was said about taking several days before we received the furniture. Days before the move, I called to verify that everything was set and was told it would be Fri or Sat. before furniture would arrive. When I found this out, I called and spoke to Paul again who assurred me that it would be no later than Thurs. I informed him that they would need to use an elevator and Paul told me that would add $60 on to the chrg. When the movers started taking out furniture, my daughter was told that she would have to give the mover's a tip of $150. She called myself and my other daughter (we have the text message) asking if she was required to do this. This man then told her if she was "really nice" the guys at the other end might not charge her. The also told her that her load was larger than the estimate was for; she was 50 cubic feet over, and they tried to charge her $684 for the 50 cubic feet. The funiture ended up in St. Louis, MO the following Saturday. Once unloaded, we noticed that an office chair and a DVD rack was missing. We informed driver and he said "its not on the list" so we don't have it." I contacted the office several times, only to get an answering machine. I finally talked to a secretary on Mon. and told her about this situation. She told me I needed to speak with Adam, so she transferred my call and I left another voice mail. On Wed., still hadn't heard back so I called again, got the same secretary and she gave me Adam's cell phone number because even she was upset at how my daughter had been treated. When I talked to Adam, he immediately got very defensive and telling me "How do I know you not make this up?" He said this after EVERY issue I mentioned to him. He obviously has some underhanded people working for him and he doesn't want to do anything about it. And trying to take advantage of a 21 year old female, both monetarily and sexually, is completely unacceptable. As for the items that were missing, again I was told "How I know u not make this up?" When I confronted him asking him if he was saying I was a liar, he said "no, but you take that any way you want to". Summing this up, we were deceived from the very beginning with this company. We were not told that it would take a week for the furniture to arrive. My daughter being asked for a "tip" or she could "be really nice" and not have to pay a tip; if that is not a sexual advance, I don't know what is. Paul told us $60 for the elevator; she was charged $100. Then to top it all off, she was asked to pay an additional $684 for 50 cubic feet of merchandise; she made the trip back to Atlanta to get it herself. The way that Adam spoke to me was totally unprofessional and rude; he told me more times than I can count that he "couldn't believe this" and "how you gonna prove?" All I can say is if you decide to use these guys, be prepared to pay MUCH more than quoted and hide your teenage daughters until after they leave!!!!

****THE WORST COMPANY EVER****

Don't use this company. Unless you want to be abused and ripped off. They are very shady and sneaky. They give you a quote and then quadruple it. They left behind almost half of my possessions in storage for my move from FL to DC. They damaged items and scratched my walls in my condo.

I had to sleep on the floor for months because they left behind essential parts to my bed which they WOULD NOT ASSEMBLE because they could not because they forgot the parts along with half of my other personal belongings!

They won't negotiate any refund or make any adjustments. They lied to my bank when I put in a claim. They told me that I would have to pay for their Attorney in court. They caused me so much distress that I don't ever want to move again.

I have moved many times and have expected companies to be greedy but they top the cake for being outright irresponsible and unprofessional.

I had to pay thousands to move the rest of my stuff back up north and didn't even have a bed for my daughter or a plate or a fork to use after already paying them thousands to move it in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line---

BEWARE

BAIT AND SWITCH----*** ARTISTS-----UNPROFESSIONALS---RUDE---LAZY---LIARS

Flat Rate Movers, avoid them at all costs

Flat Rate Movers from Bethesda, Maryland should be avoided at all costs. They showed up to move us in a rented truck (never a good sign). They were to store the furniture for one month before delivering it to our new home. When the furniture showed up a month later, they were obviously using unskilled day-laborers who couldn't care less about the furniture, but worse than that, almost every piece that came off the truck was broken, damaged, or dirty. Our mattresses were so soiled we threw them out. Our big TV was broken. Leather sofa had three holes in it. Many pieces of wood furniture were broken. Carefully packed boxes of glassware and keepsakes were crushed. And, to add insult to injury, when I finally tracked down the owner, he said "at least you didn't have any nice furniture." Most furnishings were Ethan Allen which to me, is pretty nice furniture. He also suggested that I damaged the items myself to rip him off. I got a quote for repairs to the wood furniture for $2,700.00. Flat Rate Movers said under the terms of their contract they are not responsible for the damaged electronics and the fragile items. All in, I had at least $6,000.00 worth of damaged or destroyed property. So, I faxed the quote for repairs to the owner of the company who immediately quit returning my phone calls and if I called from another number, he would hang up as soon as he realized it was me. Never did get payment for the damaged items. And to make matters worse, someone from there called me a couple of months later to ask about the $300.00 they said I owed for "extra man-hours." Recently, I had Farenheit Movers from Chantilly, Virginia move us. Not one piece of damaged property, took half the time, and cost less money. There are good guys out there, just not Flat Rate Movers.
